"Disappointed"
(Morrissey/Stephen Street)

These words are transcribed without permission the way they appear in the "Bona Drag" album. Additions to the printed lyrics are in darker text while omissions are striken out.

Our unsleepable friend 1
gets the message on an ill-wind
'all your friends and your foes
would rather die than have to touch you' 2
TO SAY THE LEAST: truly disappointed
truly, truly, truly
Drank too much
and I said too much
and there's nowhere to go - but Down
young boy - I wanna help you 3
SEE THESE LINES?: truly disappointed 4
truly, truly, truly
Don't talk to me now
about people who are "nice"
'cause I have spent my WHOLE LIFE
in RUINS... 5
because of people who were "nice"
This world may lack Style, I know 6
but each bud must blossom and grow
Young girl one day we really you will be old 7
but the thing is: I love you NOW
This is the last song I will ever sing
No I've changed my mind again 8
GOODNIGHT
AND THANK YOU

1 On the Kill Uncle tour, as heard in the live version of this song released on the "Pregnant For The Last Time" single, Morrissey occasionally sang this line as "Your unspeakable friend..." When the song was played again at the end of 2006 and in early 2007, he alternated between the latter and "Your unsleepable friend". Then on the 2007 Greatest Hits tour he seemed to stick with "Your unsleepable friend".

2 On the song's first performance in Wolverhampton in 1988, Morrissey sang "They'd rather die than ever touch you". In certain live performances of this song in 1991, he changed this line to "...rather die than have to sleep with you", "...rather die than have to shag you" or "...rather die than have to suck you". In the live version released on the "Pregnant For The Last Time" single, it sounds as if Morrissey sang "They'd rather die than have to tuck you". When the song was performed again in 2006 and 2007, Morrissey constantly sang "...rather die than have to sleep with you".

3 On the 1991 Kill Uncle tour and on the 2007 Greatest Hits tour, Morrissey occasionally changed this line to "Young boy please believe I wanna help you".

4 Now and then on the 2007 Greatest tour Morrissey sang "see this face, I'm truly disappointed".

5 In live performances of this song in late 2006 and 2007 Morrissey sang "I have spent my whole life confused because of people who were nice".

6 On the Greatest Hits tour in 2007 Morrissey sometimes sang "this world it may lack style, I should know".

7 On most of the Kill Uncle tour (and on the only date the song was played in 1992), Morrissey sang these words as they are printed in the booklet: "Young girl one day we really will be old", or the slightly alternate "Young girl one day you really will be old" and later "Young girl one day I really will be old". The 'we' form can be heard in the live performance of the song released on the "Pregnant For The Last Time" single. When the song was done again in late 2006 and 2007, Morrissey alternated between the studio form and "Young girl one day you really will be old".

8 On most of the Kill Uncle tour, as heard in the live version of this song released on the "Pregnant For The Last Time" single, Morrissey changed this line to "Yes! yes! yes! yes! yes! yes! yes!". Near the end of the second British leg, he seemed to get tired of this and just mumbled or made strange noise. Then on the last date of that leg, and for all the following second American leg, Morrissey just didn't sing the line. After "This is the last song I will ever sing", the song suddenly stopped, Morrissey just dropped his microphone and dramatically left the stage, followed by his musicians. When he resurrected the song in late 2006 he stuck with the original version, then on the 2007 Greatest Hits tour he mostly sang "Yes! yes! yes! yes! yes! yes! yes!".
