"You Have Killed Me"
(Morrissey/Jesse Tobias)

These words are transcribed without permission the way they appear in the "Ringleader Of The Tormentors" album. Additions to the printed lyrics are in darker text while omissions are striken out.

Pasolini is me
Accattone you'll be 1
I entered nothing
and nothing entered me
till you came
with the key
and you did your best, but

As I live and breathe
you have killed me
you have killed me
yes, I walk around - somehow
but you have killed me
you have killed me
Piazza Cavour - what's my life for? 2

Visconti is me 3
Magnani you'll never be 4
I entered nothing 5
and nothing entered me
till you came
with the key
and you did your best, but 6

As I live and breathe
you have killed me
you have killed me
yes, I walk around - somehow
but you have killed me
you have killed me
who am I that I
come to be here? 7

As I live and breathe
you have killed me
you have killed me
yes, I walk around - somehow
but you have killed me
you have killed me
and there is no point saying this again
and there is no point saying this again
but I forgive you
I forgive you
always I do
forgive you.

1 On the 2006 tour Morrissey sometimes changed this line to "...Fellini I'll be", "Fellini you'll be" or "...Fellini you'll never be". In the live performance of this song on the Later with Jools Holland television programme in 2006 and on a few festival dates that summer, he changed this line to "Mozalini I'll be". At the end of that year he would point at the Pasolini backdrop and sing "Pasolini is he..." then turn around and continue with "... and Mozalini is me", "... and Mozalini I'll always be" or other similar variations. On the 2007 Greatest Hits tour he alternated between "...but Rossellini I would rather be" or "...Fellini I would rather be". If he was feeling playful he would change Pasolini to something improvised such as Che Guevara, or sing "Pasolini is me, me!.

2 In the live performances of this song from mid-May 2006 throughout the rest of that year and in 2007 Morrissey changed this line to "Piazza Cavour - what the hell is my life for". He also did this when he performed on the Later with Jools Holland programme.

3 On the 2006-2007 Tour Of The Tormentors, Morrissey sometimes changed this line to "Tony Visconti is me", "Fellini is me" or "Tony Franciosa is me". On the 2007 Greatest Hits tour he reverted to the song's original line.

4 On the 2006-2007 tour and in television appearances that year, Morrissey usually changed this line to "Anna Magnani you'll never be", "...you could never be", "...you'll always be" or "...I wish you'd be". Later he would replace Anna Magnani with Diana Dors, and even once or twice with Sophia Loren. On the 2007 Greatest Hits tour he usually sang "Anne Sexton you will always be", or sometimes "Diana Dors you will never be".

5 On a bunch of festivals dates during the summer of 2006: "I entered nothing, and obviously nothing entered me..." This became standard early on the 2007 Greatest Hits tour, then Morrissey switched to "I entered nothing and look! nothing entered me". In early 2007 he once sang "I entered no one and nobody entered me..." On the second and third legs of the 2007 Greatest Hits tour he reverted to the original form more often than not.

6 On a few live dates in 2006 Morrissey changed this line to "you did okay but".

7 In the 2006 and 2007 live stage or television performances of this song Morrissey often changed this line to "come to be standing here". In late 2006 he started improvising alternatives such as "who am I that I come to be on this stage", "...to be on this screen", "...to be kneeling here" or "to be shaking your hand".
