Morrissey and his musicians were in great form, but the crowd wasn't the most receptive. Elements in the audience who were there for other acts shouted abuse at Morrissey. The man still gave his best and was very well appreciated by his fans. In retrospect he was happy with the concert (see quote below).

"I'll Never Be Anybody's Hero Now" was replaced by its albummate "To Me, You Are A Work Of Art" while the lesser known b-side "If You Don't Like Me, Don't Look At Me" was dropped.

Set opener "How Soon Is Now?" was extended with a beautiful piano intro. After a very well received "First Of The Gang To Die" came part 2 of Morrissey's greeting: "Welcome to our songs and for reasons best known to Jesus, my name is Morrissey..." In "You Have Killed Me" the man put more emphasis on a line by singing "I entered nothing, and obviously nothing entered me..." After "The Youngest Was The Most Loved" he announced "We are very pleased to be here in your incredibly beautiful country... which, er... what, what what..."

"Girlfriend In A Coma" was introduced with the question "Does your girlfriend have a comb over?" Then future single "In The Future When All's Well" was introduced with the words "We have the grotesque audacity to release a new single on August the 28th. Please, if you feel benevolent, trot in, buyzee, takehomezee, playzee, otherwise, don't worry..." A line of that song was changed to "Everyday I play a crap game called..." Morrissey was on a roll and the following song on the setlist was also introduced: "I can bear most things in life... a little... but don't make fun of daddy's voice!"

After the latter song Morrissey had a word with his favourite fan: "Are you swinging with us Julia? Ah! Ah-ah... I hope you're well... I hope I'm well..." He then followed this by the customary band introduction: "If it doesn't take you away from what you're doing, here is Boz Boorer... this here is Gary Day... this here is Matt Walker... this here is Jesse Tobias... this here is Michael Farrell... and I'm the singer..." Soon after Morrissey threw his sweat-soaked shirt in the audience and announced "The shirts will disintegrate in 30 seconds... Ha-ha-ha-ha!"

After "Life Is A Pigsty" Morrissey replied to someone in the audience "Yes I agree with you, except you say it better than I do". In "We'll Let You Know" he changed a line to "I wonder how I've stayed alive til now". After the song he announced "We have a reasonably new CD called 'Ringleader Of The Tormentors', which is buyable even in Austria... In fact 20 people bought it and they were immediately arrested, which is quite right... but thanks anyway..." Before going into final number "Panic" he thanked his audience: "Thanks for giving us your ears, God bless you, goodbye and... the rest of it..."

The complete concert minus "How Soon Is Now" and "Stop Me If You Think You've Heard This One Before" was broadcast on Austria's FM4 radio. The show was also webcast on the radio station's webpage.

Both the radio broadcast and the webcast mentioned above are circulated on the internet. The former is for obvious reasons of much better quality than the latter.

Quotes

Morrissey, in a statement to the True To You website in September 2006: "Austria was a big thrill for me, and I was astonished that the audience was so large."
