For many people who attended, this was the best of the Palladium shows this far. Morrissey appeared to be in good spirits, he was chatty and sounded amazing. He himself probably didn't agree with this being the best show because he suffered from microphone/sound problems which forced him to cut songs short or skip lyrics. He was visibly irritated at times and some fans feared at some point that he might just walk off. But he never did and he was actually very playful through it all. The audience was very receptive. There was no serious attempt to get on stage until the encore when it seems like everyone tried at the same time. Security was quite brutal in making their best not to lose control.

The sound problems didn't stop Morrissey from playing a 22-song setlist, which is one or two more songs that the usual set length at this point in time. The highlight was the reintroduction of three titles that hadn't been played in some time. The fan favourite "Jack The Ripper" as well as "The World Is Full Of Crashing Bores" returned for the first time since 2004, and "Last Night I Dreamt That Somebody Loved Me" was played for the first time since the summer of 2006. "The Boy With The Thorn In His Side", "I Like You", "That's How People Grow Up" and "The Last Of The Famous International Playboys" were the other returns. To make space for these, the following numbers were temporarily dropped: "London", "You Have Killed Me", "The Youngest Was The Most Loved", "Good Looking Man About Town", "Please, Please, Please, Let Me Get What I Want" and "Let Me Kiss You".

Morrissey entered stage at the end of the "Imperfect List" and greeted the audience with a shout of "This is a pre-dawn raid!". After set opener "Jack The Ripper" he extended this with "Welcome to the 43rd night of our 79 nights at the Hollywood Palladium..." Over the final bars of "Stop Me If You Think You've Heard This One Before" he shouted "Some... of... us... is... turning nasty...", which were the words found printed on the base drum's skin at the time. After the song he declared "So you are here again for your fix..." which got a cheer of approval from the crowd. After "Sister I'm A Poet" he answered someone in the audience with the words "Yes, I agree, I agree!"

Morrissey slightly extended a line in "Tomorrow" to "I never even said I wanted to, be honest! Well did I..." In live performances of the song at the time he usually changed the second occurrence of the line "through my shiftless body" to "through this useless body", but on this date he sang "through this hopeless body", which got a roar of disapproval from the audience, so he added "Yeah!" After "The World Is Full Of Crashing Bores" he proceeded with the introduction of the band. He said something then continued with "hence Michael Farrell... hence Jesse Tobias... hence Matt Walker... hence Solomon Walker... hence the indestructible Boz Boorer..." After "I Like You" he said "What the hell does it mean? I wish I knew..." After "The Loop", in which he invites the listener to "by all means call me", Morrissey jokingly announced "I don't even possess a telephone... I don't!". After "Death Of A Disco Dancer" he said "When there's so much in life that we cannot do it's astonishing if we find something that we can do and... obviously, I'm still searching, and give me two or three more years and maybe, maybe..." He extended a line in "Billy Budd" to "but everyone's laughing... as they should!"

Morrissey followed the final note of "Why Don't You Find Out For Yourself" with the comment "Of course you knew that..." He then echoed someone's shouts with "Blah-di-blah-di-blah..." He usually sang the original single version of "Stretch Out And Wait" at the time, but on this date he switched to the alternate version as heard on the "World Won't Listen" compilation album. However he changed one line in the latter version's alternate intro to "your face I can see, and it's moderately kind, but what's at the back of your mind". As on the previous date he sang "it's the Manchester blood in my veins" and after the line "is there any point ever having children", he handed the microphone to fans in the front rows. They shouted "no!" in unison, and Morrissey just rewarded them by saying "my brethren..." After the song he started "Some songs Julia..." but the rest was undecipherable, until he said "Have you noticed? Have you noticed? Some of them..."

Morrissey slightly changed a line in "One Day Goodbye Will Be Farewell" to "and the smiling children tell you that you smell". After the song he thanked the crowd, then added "thank you Julia... any sympathetic report, but we don't mind, we'll take it anyway..." The sound problems really started during "Last Night I Dreamt That Somebody Loved Me". Near the end of that song Morrissey stopped singing and let his musicians finish as an instrumental. After this was done he apologised to the audience: "I'm sorry, I couldn't hear it properly... So we should try again, a different song..." New composition "That's How People Grow Up" was introduced with the line "Yesterday we appeared on the Carson & Phyllis show... or was it Carson Daly? Which I think is transmitted tomorrow... and we sang two songs, one of which is this..." The sound situation got even worse during the latter number. Near the end of it Morrissey grimaced and asked "Is this horrible? Should we stop? (makes cutting motion) That's horrible... (crowd disapproves) Yes, you must agree... it was horrible... Julia?... Is the sound alright? Are you wearing headphones? Well, if at first, you don't succeed..." Oce again the problem was only with his monitor because everything sounded fine in the audience.

Following "Irish Blood, English Heart" Morrissey asked "Are we all men? No? Too difficult?". He then thanked someone and told a fan "and to the person who's been holding the Southpaw sign for the last five years... it's a beautiful song but erm (looks at his hands in a timid way)... nobody knows how to play it..." He changed a few lines at the beginning of "All You Need Is Me" to "could that be because all you need is me" and "you roll your eyes up to the skies and pretend to be horrified". Near the end he sang "You probably won't miss me when I'm gone". In "The Last Of The Famous International Playboys" he punctuated an occurrence of the chorus line with "me!". After the line "I'm not naturally evil", he added "not naturally..." For the rest of the song he let the audience sing most of the words. When they sang "just to make myself more attractive to you. Have I failed?", he shouted "YES!"

Besides the usual live changes in "How Soon Is Now?" Morrissey extended a line to "you cry and you want to die and what else? Nothing else..." He adlibbed many minor changes in "Life Is A Pigsty". When he returned to the stage for the encore his final words before the final song were "You traveled all the way from Little Armenia... and, dear God we're grateful..." The Palladium just erupted for "First Of The Gang To Die". It was a mass assault on the stage as people from all over charged the barricade. Morrissey hard a difficult time singing and couldn't hide his broad smile as he emphatically cried out twice, "I have to save my people!". The struggle continued as he let out his usual grunts and said "I'm trying!".

Morrissey's people as well as a crew from Los Angeles' LATV were in the venue filming the show. Four songs from the set were featured later in the year in a LATV special programme on Morrissey and his latino fans, alongside a Morrissey interview and five other songs from an earlier show in Santa Barbara. These four songs are "Jack The Ripper", "The World Is Full Of Crashing Bores", "Why Don't You Find Out For Yourself" and "The Loop".

There are no audio or video bootlegs of the full concert in wide circulation at this point in time. However the four songs from the LATV programme mentioned above are easily found on DVD bootlegs of the television special. Also, an audience video recording of the full set minus "The World Is Full Of Crashing Bores", "Death Of A Disco Dancer", "I'm Throwing My Arms Around Paris", "That's How People Grow Up" and "Life Is A Pigsty" can be viewed on Youtube. Perhaps one day the taper of that footage (very likely Youtube user alexbaut) will put his recording onto DVD and share it in better quality with the trading community. Some footage of this date (source unknown) has been included on a bootleg 2-DVD set featuring material from all Morrissey shows at the Palladium in October 2007.

As for audio, the show was recorded by someone but this hasn't been shared much yet. The only thing that can be found on the internet at this point in time is the audio lifted from the Youtube material mentioned above, minus "Irish Blood, English Heart" and "All You Need Is Me".

Were you there? Do you have a recording of this concert? If yes please information and be credited.
