You're Gonna Need Someone On Your SideThis show has been generally very positively reviewed by people who attended. Morrissey was in great spirits and very chatty. He did seem a little uncertain at first, but as the audience showed their warmth, he couldn't help but reciprocate. He interacted with the crowd a lot and accepted many gifts handed to him. "You're Gonna Need Someone On Your Side" and "Lucky Lisp" were played on this date for the first time on this third leg of Morrissey's Greatest Hits tour. The following songs also returned to the set: "The National Front Disco", "Ganglord", "I Will See You In Far Off Places", "Human Being", "I Just Want To See The Boy Happy", "One Day Goodbye Will Be Farewell", "Shoplifters Of The World Unite" and "Life Is A Pigsty". To make space for these, the following songs were temporarily dropped: "You Have Killed Me", "Whatever Happens, I Love You", "Irish Blood, English Heart", "In The Future When All's Well", "Disappointed", "Stretch Out And Wait", "Billy Budd", "London" and "Dear God Please Help Me". So this meant that the set's length was brought back up to 21 songs. It would have even made it to 22 songs had Morrissey played "Good Looking Man About Town" which was scheduled as a first encore before "First Of The Gang To Die". When he entered stage Morrissey gave the front row quizzical looks as if he was thinking "You, again?!" and then pretended to machine gun the crowd. He then greeted the audience with the words "I'm humbled... I'm here!" After set opener "You're Gonna Need Someone On Your Side" he joked "After so long, it's great to see you..." After "Tomorrow" he said "We have just stumbled in from Echo Park, so..." At some point he self-deprecatingly said "All of my life I have felt obligated to imagine the worst and I haven't let myself down yet..." After "The Loop" he proceeded with the introduction of the band. He started introducing Boz as a legend, but referred to himself instead. After an emphatic "I'm kidding" he worked his way to keyboardist Michael of who he said "he's ready for anything". After "Sister I'm A Poet" Morrissey said "If you have any complaints, write to the management." He then introduced "Lucky Lisp" with the words "This is a Japanese song called 'Rucky Risp'..." Morrissey did the usual lyric changes in the latter number, but he exceptionally sang the balcony fool line as in the studio version, instead of replacing it with a repeat of "I will gurgle from the circle". After the final "lucky lisp wasn't wasted on you" line he pointed at himself and added "me?". After the song he told someone "Well, I was joking when I called you a lesbian..." The b-side "Ganglord" was introduced as a song about "...the lighter side of death." At this point into the show Morrissey walked up to a fan who was handing him a James Dean picture, asked if it was for him, then took the gift. The image had the words "All the world is a stage. All the men and women are merely actors." on it. Later into the concert Morrissey told the fan "My friend said 'All the world is a stage. All the men and women are...'" and handed him the microphone so he could finish the quote. Taking back the microphone Morrissey asked "Are you sure that's what he said? Are you sure it's not something like 'the men and women play their parts'? Are you sure?..." The reason Morrissey was asking was because the quote should have ended with "players" and not "actors". Morrissey picked up many more gifts during "I Like You". He would hold them up for everyone to have a good look before putting them on the drum rise. One particular gift, a cd or a book, was slipped inside the waistband of his trousers for the length of the song. Another fan who was handed the microphone asked Morrissey if he had a record deal. The man answered "No, but we have one offer" and went on to say that he would like to have a second one. He then teasingly asked if anyone would like to make him an offer. To someone who shouted a request for "Sheila Take A Bow" he replied "No she doesn't". After "Human Being" Morrissey changed into a fresh shirt and said "Whenever I stick a shirt on, all I want to do is toss it away... which is the same reaction I have when holding a small child..." Following "One Day Goodbye Will Be Farewell" he said, "We're all in favour of free expression... as long as it's favorable..." Near the end of the show a fan gave him a New York Dolls shirt which he tucked in the waistband of his trousers and wore as an apron for a short time. When Morrissey and the band came back on stage for the encore they formed a line at the front, arms around each other, and bowed as they often did. However Morrissey started pulling the line backwards, and in the process pulled his immediate neighbours Solomon and Jesse down to the floor with him. After getting back up Morrissey echoed the crowd's chant of "Morrissey! Morrissey!" with his own "Echo Park! Echo Park!". A crew from LATV were filming the show, but the footage they ended up using with their interview from Morrissey (broadcast later in the year) was from Santa Barbara a week and a half earlier, and from the 11 October Hollywood Palladium show. Bucky Fukumoto and someone else were also there filming for Morrissey himself.
Some footage of this date (source unknown) has been included on a bootleg 2-DVD set featuring material from all Morrissey shows at the Palladium in October 2007.
