Additional information:
This is a compilation of Morrissey's favourite tracks, selected by the man himself, similar to the "Under The Influence" compilation from 2003. The cd was given away with the 19 June 2004 issue of the NME in the UK.

Morrissey's "The Never Played Symphonies" can also be found on the "Irish Blood, English Heart" single and the deluxe edition of the "You Are The Quarry" album.

The Killers' track is labelled as the album version but it is actually slightly different.

Artwork information:
The creases and bent corners and the apparent edge of a 7" record in the scan displayed here are part of the artwork. The inlay and back show the front and back of a typical freebie 7" as they were found bundled with the NME (or any other magazine) in the 1970s or 1980s. The cd label itself looks like a 7" record.

Quotes

"The NME generously issues a CD called Songs to Save Your Life, which they graciously allow me to compile with some of my favorite recordings by other artists. As the CD goes into production the NME adds four tracks by newer groups who are NME favorites - mainly because all of the songs I have chosen date back to the Roaring Twenties. These last four would never be my choice, but the NME argues (not unreasonably) that by adding the newer bands the CD has modern currency against my Bronze Age tastes."
